The FEMO International Mathematics Olympiad is held for children in grades 1-6. The Olympiad consists of three rounds - winter, spring and international. Anyone can take part in the winter and spring tours. The winners of one of the rounds will be admitted to the International round of the Olympiad. All participants in each of the rounds are awarded certificates of participation. No more than 60% of the participants are awarded medals and diplomas of 1,2 and 3 degrees, as well as certificates of honorable mention.
This round is held simultaneously for all participating countries on a single weekend day. The round dates are December–January (winter) and March–April (spring). The Olympiad dates are announced 20 days before the start of the Olympiad. The problems are developed by an international methodological committee.
One or two venues are allocated in each region for the Olympiad, where all those wishing to participate, according to their lists, arrive at the designated time. The list of venues is determined several weeks before the Olympiad and will be published on the official Olympiad website, www.femo.kz.
If there is no Olympiad venue in your city, the Olympiad will be held online.
Participants will be offered problems of varying difficulty. The duration and number of problems vary depending on the grade level:
Students in grades 1-2 will be given 10 problems to solve, with 60 minutes to complete, while students in grades 3-6 will be given 15 problems, with 90 minutes to complete.
The Olympiad does not require submitting solutions to the problems; only the answer is required.
The Olympiad languages are English, Russian, Kazakh, and at the request of the host country.
The Olympiad results will be announced within 10 business days, after which the results and electronic certificates will be sent to the email address provided during registration. The results will be published on the femo.kz website after the results and electronic certificates have been sent to the participants.
The registration fee for each participant is $18 (9,000 tenge).
In the event of force majeure (war, uprising, strike, pandemic, earthquake, flood, fire, severe weather conditions or other natural disasters, government regulations, orders (decrees) of state bodies and officials, laws and other regulations of competent authorities)
Only winners (Grand Prix and 1st place) of the Winter or Spring Tournaments can participate in this round. The round will be held from May 29th to June 1st. The exact dates of the Olympiad will be announced 20 days before the start. The tasks will be developed by the International Methodological Committee.
For the International Tour, the Organizing Committee will select a host region/country from among the participating/partner countries. The host location will be announced by May 1st of the current year on the website www.femo.kz.
Winners will be required to travel to the host location. Meals, accommodation, and travel expenses are the responsibility of the Olympiad participants. The registration fee for each participant is $250 (120,000 tenge) (includes cultural program, and organizational expenses).
This round will be held in two stages:
1. Individual Competition
2. Group Competition
In the individual competition, Olympiad participants will be presented with problems of varying difficulty. The duration and number of problems depend on the grade level.
Students in grades 1-2 will be presented with 10 problems and will have 60 minutes to solve them, while students in grades 3-6 will be presented with 15 problems and will have 90 minutes to solve them.
No solutions are required for the Olympiad; only the answer is required, with the exception of the last three problems of the individual competition.
The languages of the Olympiad are English, Russian, Kazakh, and the language requested by the host country.
The second day of the Olympiad will be held in the group competition. Participants will be divided into teams of 4-5 people. Each team will be given 10 problems and will have 1 hour to solve them. Each team selects a captain, who will distribute the problems among the team members. Each participant must solve no more than three problems.
The Olympiad results are announced within a day of the Olympiad submission. The awards ceremony for the Olympiad winners takes place on the final day. Individual and group scores are evaluated separately. The individual round results will be published after the awards ceremony on the website www.femo.kz.
All participants receive certificates of participation, as well as a 10% discount on tuition at the IFSS Junior International Summer Camp. Up to 60% of participants will be awarded medals and diplomas of first, second, and third place, as well as certificates of merit.
Participants who place first, second, and third receive discounts on tuition at the IFSS Junior International Summer Camp of 100%, 50%, and 30%, respectively, as well as valuable prizes.
In case of force majeure circumstances (war, uprising, strike, pandemic, earthquake, flood, fire, severe weather conditions or other natural disasters, government regulations, orders (decrees) of state bodies and officials, laws and other regulations of the competent authorities) the Olympiad will be held online.
The date and time of the Olympiad will also be announced before the start of the Olympiad.
For the Olympiad, platforms can be used: Google Forms, exam.net and others. Platform instructions will be sent to the participants' email addresses filled in at registration.
In the case of the International Round in the online format, only the individual stage will be offered to the participants.
